The Hope Centre is able to sustain their food security program through their partnership with Delta Welland.
The Hope Centre offers a range of services for individuals and families facing challenges with mental health and food and housing insecurity. Founded in 1974, they aim to empower, assist and strengthen the community.
Volunteering at Delta has its benefits.
Through the Charitable Gaming program, volunteers at The Hope Centre commit a few hours each month to assist with activities at Delta Welland. In exchange, The Hope Centre receives a percentage of funds generated to assist with their food security programs for residents of Welland.
Easing the burden.
Recently, an older couple visited The Hope Centre for help with their application to the Ontario Electricity Support Program. During their conversation with a Community Coach, they shared that even with their combined pensions, they struggled to cover essential expenses. With most of their income going toward rent and utilities, they often faced tough choices between necessities like food and medication. They expressed deep gratitude for The Hope Centre’s food bank, which provides them with a few days’ worth of food each month, helping to ease their burden.
Thanks to the funds raised at Delta Bingo & Gaming in Welland, The Hope Centre can sustain its food security programs.
