Delta Partners with Camphill Communites

Barrie

Camphill Communities Ontario has been raising monies at Delta Barrie for over 7 years.

Camphill Communities Ontario is an accredited not-for-profit organization that provides support services to adults with developmental disabilities in Simcoe County. They support people in directing their own lives and promoting community partnerships, opportunities, well-being, freedom and contributions. Camphill’s mission is to enrich society by creating meaningful opportunities to live, learn, and work together and to build a community where people of diverse abilities enjoy a quality of life and personal growth in a rich social and cultural environment.

The Social Enterprises at Camphill — including the Maple Syrup Social Enterprise, Market Gardens, and Online Store — create opportunities for adults with intellectual disabilities to learn new skills, create meaningful paid work opportunities, and be innovators in sustainable social enterprise.

Colin is one of many individuals that benefit from this program. Colin was looking for a sense of purpose and began working with the team on the Maple Syrup Social Enterprise, working in their traditional sugar bush, installing taps, collecting the sap, turning it into syrup, and teaching others about the traditional methods used. Collecting syrup has become a point of pride, gives structure to Colin’s day, and allows him to be a part of a process where he sees the beginning through to the end. After the maple syrup season, Colin continues his work on the land as an active member of the garden team, growing fresh produce for the community year-round.
