Navy League of Canada Barrie Branch

The Navy League of Canada Barrie Branch provides families in Barrie with the city’s only free four season youth program which introduces their 100+ cadets to the nautical life. They instruct sailing, orientation, first aid and most importantly safety, leadership and respect to their cadets.  The Navy League has been partnering with Delta Bingo and Gaming in Barrie since their site conversion to cGaming in 2005, however their involvement with the previous paper site began in 1998. In the last year the League has raised nearly $12,000 through their regular shifts at the Centre. The group also ran two successful Charity Fundraisers which allowed them to raise an additional $4,000. Funds raised through their partnership with Charitable Gaming are used to operate their summer sailing programs. Funds are specifically earmarked for the purchase of safety equipment such as helmets and certified life preservers and to make repairs to their fleet of sail boats which ensures that their programs are offered at zero cost to the families involved. Their motto is “Ready Aye Ready” and they encourage their cadets to be ready for anything at any time. The group stresses the importance of safety first!  Comradery and fun come in at a close second. The group hopes that the lessons their cadets learn through their programs can be applied throughout their lives and in to adulthood.
