Delta Peterborough partners to empower women
Elizabeth Fry Society of Peterborough has been raising funds through cGaming at Delta Peterborough since 2011. In that time, they have raised over $20,000 for their initiatives.
Elizabeth Fry Society is committed to advocating and providing services for all criminalized and imprisoned women, as well as those at risk of criminalization. They recognize the rights of women to dignity and respect in all aspects of their involvement with the criminal justice system.
They provide gender responsive services and programs which promote the empowerment of women who are, have been or may be in conflict with the criminal justice system. They initiate social action and foster community involvement and responsibility in efforts directed at social change, reform of the criminal justice system, and development of community alternatives to incarceration. They promote community awareness, knowledge and understanding of the issues faced by women involved in the criminal justice system and the conditions which contribute to women becoming criminalized.
This agency works with up to 600 women annually and funds from Delta Peterborough help provide free programs and services for their clients.
Funds collected are used for core services, such as additional social workers to shorten wait times for counselling. This is an essential service since many clients are in crisis and may have difficulty following through when put on a waitlist.
All of the work that is being done to help women is our community is incredible – and Delta Bingo is thrilled to say we could be a part of it.
