Delta Barrie Supports Barrie Special Olympics

Barrie Special Olympics is dedicated to enriching the lives of members of their community with an intellectual disability through participation in sport. Using funds raised, Special Olympics not only provides their athletes with specialized training in their sport, but also with strong interpersonal skills, empowerment, friendship and a sense of purpose; something that every young person desires.

In 2019 SOO-Barrie’s volunteers raised $8,000 through their partnership with Delta Bingo & Gaming Centre Barrie.

Funds raised are used to provide -Barrie athletes with support through coaching, the purchase of equipment and subsidies for travel and related expanses to various competitions in the Province.

In February 2020, Sam Windross (pictured above) a 23-year old multi sport Special Olympics athlete and volunteer at the Delta Bingo & Gaming Centre Barrie was invited to compete at the Special Olympics Invitational Games in Sweden. Sam competed in various alpine skiing events and won 2 gold medals in Advance Giant Slalom and Advanced Slalom.
