Delta Pickering partners with Big Brothers Big Sisters

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Ajax-Pickering is the leading mentorship organization in the community. Currently serving over 400 children, these programs are instrumental in reducing truancy, bullying, and delinquency.

Nicholas is a Little Brother in one of the programs.  His story shows the impact that mentorship has on a child’s life.  Nicholas was shy and socially awkward, lacking a positive male role model.  His mother wanted her son to have a Big Brother that would help improve his self-confidence and overcome his social struggles.

A few years ago, Nicholas was matched with Big Brother Daniel.  Since then, Nicholas’ mom has seen wonderful, positive change in her son.  She enjoys watching him open up to new experiences.  Daniel has been there to help Nicholas navigate through the “kid stuff.”   Nicholas is now beaming with confidence, his social skills have improved, and he has learned the true meaning of friendship.

The demand for mentorship services is high and children often wait up to two years to get a Big Brother or Big Sister.  Thanks to funds raised through cGaming at Delta Gaming Pickering,  Big Brothers Big Sisters of Ajax-Pickering has decreased their wait lists and increased the number of children served by 78% in the last four years.  The difference that cGaming funds make in the community is truly appreciated.
