$10,000 raised for Special Olympics Athletes in Barrie
The Special Olympics Athlete Oath is: Let me win. But if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt. The Barrie branch of Special Olympics Ontario has been providing year-round sports training and athletic competition for individuals with intellectual disabilities in the community for more than 25 years. Last year, the organization saw over 250 registered athletes and more than 100 volunteer coaches and support people. They provide training in 14 summer and winter Olympic-style sporting events, and have seen many of their athletes win medals at the Provincial, National and World level of competition.
The organization’s involvement at the Barrie cGaming site extends back 18 years and in 2016 the group raised over $10,000 through their involvement there. The funds raised are used to provided transportation, uniforms, facilities, and equipment to their athletes throughout the year. With the help of the funds raised at Delta Bingo & Gaming Barrie, the organization can open their registration up to a larger number of athletes and provide them with world-class training to help them realize their dreams.
