Delta Barrie helps to remove barriers

Deaf Access Simcoe Muskoka’s vision is to remove barriers and create an inclusive community for individuals who are culturally or orally deaf, deafened or hard of hearing. DASM has been partnering with Delta Boardwalk Gaming Centre Barrie since its conversion to cGaming in 2006; however their involvement with the previous paper site extends back almost 30 years.

In 2015 the agency raised over $10,000 through their partnership with cGaming. Each year DASM provides interpretation and note taking services to over 200 children, youth and adults. Funds that are raised through their involvement at the Barrie site are used to bridge the gap where accessible services are not provided; specifically for important life events such as funerals, weddings, and graduations and important meetings or presentations. Funds are also used to support their family, child and youth programs which they offer throughout the year.

With the unique geographical location of the region they service, DASM recognizes and works to accommodate the large influx of tourist visitors during the summer and winter months. Using funds raised here in Barrie, DASM can extend their programs to benefit families in need of their services while visiting the area. The work they do helps to make the Simcoe and Muskoka regions an ideal place for their clients to live and play!
